Poverty in Africa is one reason we have many external interventions. Billions of monies are pumped into African economies to drive Agriculture in the name of Poverty Reduction.

African farmers have had their fair share of these interventions. All aimed at improving the livelihood of the farmer. From technology dissemination to inputs provision.

African farmers cultivate a wide variety of food and cash crops and produce them in tonnes. These include vegetables, roots and tuber, cocoa, cashew, shea butter and many other livestock.

A good number of these produce has very high international demands and are shipped outside Africa for a presumably good price. Specifically, Africa produces 75% of the world’s cocoa to feed the chocolate industry. Not to talk of the high exportation of cashew nuts, vegetables etc.

I suppose we all expect the African Farmer to be rich afterwards.

So where do the monies go that our farmer remains poor?

Are the interventions not effective in changing the lives of the farmer?

Who is to blame, the farmer or …?

Let us bring all the factors to bear in discussing this topic.
